    1. This book starts out with an important event that rocked the world. The year is 1981. The day is May 13. A day people will remember for a long time. Pope John Paul, the second was shot at by Mehmet Ali Agca. Mehmet tried to assassinate the Pope. He was captured and questioned. This story than flashes forward to the present day, where members of a secret group, known as The Holy Alliance and a group of others that include Sarah Monterio, a journalist, Marius Ferris, a retired priest as well as a [...]

    2. The Holy Bullet is, for me, a great read - especially if you like mysteries, whodunits, thrillers, etc.The book primarily involves Opus Dei and the Vatican and the whys and wherefores behind the assassination attempt on John Paul II in 1981. The story, however, is predominantly set in the present time.Granted, following the twists and turns that make a garden maze look like childs play can sometimes be confusing, but that is one of the things that I really liked about it.That, and the backstory [...]

    3. This Author finds a way of wrapping his readers into a plot of extraordinary density Still, may favorite up till now remains "The last Pope".I am now starting "Holy Lie"Maria Carmo,Lisbon, 27 June 2016.

    9. Awful. Characters and events are introduced that add nothing to the plot and the big reveal about a certain individual being involved in nefarious activities is no surprise to anyone with knowledge of the Vatican, P2 and Opus Dei. I only persevered to the end just in case all these plot strands were tied up but they weren't.

    11. I can honestly say at the end of the book I had no more of a clue than at the beginning, I have never read such a confusing book ever, I couldn't even tell you who was the main characters !

    14. "The Holy Bullet" is a sequel to Rocha's first book, "The Last Pope". It is absolutely imperative that one reads, "The Last Pope" before reading, "The Holy Bullet".If you read "The Last Pope" you will remember that the story was largely the true account of the death (murder?) of Pope John Paul I. It was a most compelling story that touched on the illegal use of monies by the Vatican Bank and the attempted cover-up. The author, Luis Miguel Rocha, claimed that he would name the murderer of Pope Jo [...]

    16. This is another pretty good thriller with an interesting story and lots of plot twists. I did think that this book tried to cover a little too much ground and got confusing in parts, but it was still pretty good. This book is about the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in 1981. Again, there are shadowy organizations, the Vatican and multiple intelligence agencies each working to further their own agendas. I liked that many of the characters from the first book came back for another appea [...]

    17. Luis Miguel Rocha is probably one of Portugal´s best literary exports with his addictive Vatican series. “The Holy Bullet” is the second installment and, this time, the plot revolves around the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in 1981. Rafael, the tough Vatican agent – a kind of James Bond in a cassock – is assigned to do some serious “damage control” around certain secret documents which, in the wrong hands, may seriously affect the Catholic´s Church reputation and, th [...]

    19. I was given this book as a first reads giveaway. I made it about 1/3 of the way through before I decided not to waste anymore time on it. I really like the "conspiracy" type books and I really enjoyed Davinci Code. This has many of the same players, Opus Dei, Vatican, secret societies and different government agencies. It's about the 1981 attempt on the popes life. The books starts off with a quote, saying something like, I have told this story a million times but this is the 1st time I tell the [...]

    20. I got my review copy of this book from ' program. I don't usually read thrillers and spy stories so maybe that's why I don't "get" this book, but I don't. Basically, this is the story of a bunch of spies, intelligence agencies, and operatives, all of whom are working together and apart to make sure what is secret stays secret. There were no real good guys and while I think there was one bad guy on whom everything could be blamed, at the end of the book my general thought was "all that trouble, a [...]

    22. I received this book as a first-reads giveaway, and haven't read anything else by this author.I can't recommend Holy Bullet to anyone but the most committed Catholic Church / Vatican / Opus Dei / Masonic Order / conspiracy fan. I had a hard time keeping track of the many lightly drawn characters, the frequent jumps in time and place and the multiple subplots. I kept at it, hoping that the pace would lift and / or explanations would be found further along. Alas, no. The many grammatical and edito [...]

    23. I don't think I have ever been more confused in my life while reading a book. I don't know which was more confusing: the switching back and forth between the past and the present OR the multiple bad guys with no names. How do I know who is who if they don't have names. I did have high hopes for this book, but was very dissapointed. I think it could have had alot of promise if it would have only been a bit easier to follow. I also had a very hard time getting to know the few characters that I cou [...]

    24. Turgid, confusing, anonymous. It's only in the last third of the book that it starts to make sense; up to that point the main actors are largely anonymous, and the minor ones get given names, but are then killed. In fact sometimes it's hard to tell the difference, because minor characters turn out to be major ones. So, for most of the book I as wondering which characters were worth investing emotion in, and which to not worry about, but it was really hard! Double and triple crosses abounded and [...]

    25. I won an ARC via a giveaway. This is a mystery about the conspiracy surrounding the 1981 attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II. It had flashes of getting off the ground and being suspenseful, but never got there. It was overly long and flat. It also jumps around between different time periods which was somewhat confusing. This book is a translation from the Spanish version and was an uncorrected manuscript, but even given that, I was surprised at the number of grammatical errors.

    26. I was a little disappointed in this sequel to Mr. Rocha's first book. I have a tendency to forget some things and when the sequel comes out I hope the author will put enough information to jar the old memory cells. It just didn't happen in this book. The writing did not flow and I was constantly trying to figure out what was going on and why. It may have something to do with the translation but I hate when I received a book through giveaways and can't seem to get into it.

    27. I'm not giving it any stars because I wasn't able to finish reading it. This is the second book that I haven't been able to finish. I don't like to not finish a book but this book I just couldn't get into it. I was expecting it to be more suspensful maybe I don't know but I couldn't finish. I got about 1/3 of the way through. What I did read it was too jumpy from character to character, hard to follow. If anyone wants this book for themselves let me know & I will pass it along.
